20 Leadership Books to Read Now

Leaders are readers and I wanted to share my list of some of my favourite books. Now this list is a sample of some of the best books I have read over the years and I mention more in this post that you should definitely get your hands on! 

  1. The Art of the Good Life - Since antiquity, people have been asking themselves what it means to live a good life. How should I live? What constitutes a good life? What's the role of fate? What's the role of money? Is leading a good life a question of mindset, or is it more about reaching your goals? Is it better to actively seek happiness or to avoid unhappiness? 
  2. Stillness is the Key - throughout history, there's been one indelible quality that great leaders, makers, artists and fighters have shared. The Zen Buddhists described it as inner peace, the Stoics called it ataraxia and Ryan Holiday calls it stillness: the ability to be steady, focussed and calm in a constantly busy world.
  3. Give and Take - For generations, we have focused on the individual drivers of success: passion, hard work, talent, and luck. If your attitude says that you are a leader then you will behave like a leader. It's as simple as that.   18. The Extraordinary Leader - People can learn how to lead. This was the position John H. Zenger and Joseph R. Folkman took when they wrote their now-classic leadership book The Extraordinary Leader—and it’s a fact they reinforce in this new, completely updated edition of their bestseller. There is a newer version too.
  19. Good to Great - The best-selling Built to Last answered the question of what it takes to build an enduring, great company from the ground up. Good To Great answers an even more compelling question: can a good company become a great one and, if so, how?
  20. The Resilience Project - Hugh van Cuylenburg was a primary school teacher volunteering in northern India when he had a life-changing realisation: despite the underprivileged community the children were from, they were remarkably positive. By contrast, back in Australia Hugh knew that all too many children struggled with depression, social anxieties and mental illness. His own little sister had been ravaged by anorexia nervosa.
